Unspiked Life is a small publication about food and steady energy. This page explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how to get rid of it. It is written to be read, not to be scrolled past.

What we collect

What you type into the form. If you ask for the food swap chart, you give us a first name and an email address. That is the whole form. We do not ask for a surname, a phone number, an address, or anything about your health, and we have no way to learn any of it from this site.

How you arrived. When you land here from a link we published, the page stores a small record in your browser of where that link was: the campaign tags on the address, the site that referred you, and the page you landed on. It is kept under the name ul_first_touch in your browser's local storage, and it is sent to us only if you later submit the form. If you never submit the form, it never leaves your browser.

We keep this for one reason. Publishing costs time, and this tells us which articles were worth writing. It is not a profile of you, it is a note about a link.

How the site is used, in aggregate. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which articles people actually read. It records the pages you open, roughly how long you stay, how far down you scroll, which links you follow away from the site, the address that sent you here, your rough location from your IP address, and the general kind of device and browser you are using. Google shortens your IP address before storing it, and we never see the full one.

This sets cookies in your browser, which is how it recognises a second page view as part of the same visit rather than a new stranger. We keep this data for fourteen months and then Google deletes it.

We look at this in totals. It tells us that an article was read to the end, or that a link earned its place. It is not a file with your name on it, and we make no attempt to connect it to anyone who joins the email list.

If you would rather not be counted, Google publishes a browser add-on that switches it off everywhere, at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Most browsers' tracking protection and most ad blockers stop it too, and nothing on this site breaks if you use them.

What we still do not collect. No advertising network. No remarketing, no advertising profiles, no session recording, no fingerprinting. We have Google's advertising features and its cross-device signals switched off. We do not buy data about you, and we do not try to work out who you are.

Who else is involved

GoHighLevel stores the list and sends the emails. When you submit the form, the name, the email address and the arrival record above are sent to them, and that is where they live.

Google Analytics receives the usage data described above and processes it on Google's servers, which are partly in the United States. It is configured for measurement only, with advertising features off.

Google Fonts serves the typefaces. Loading a font means your browser requests a file from Google, which necessarily tells them your IP address, as it would for any file requested from any server. We send them nothing about you beyond that request.

Vercel hosts the site and keeps standard server logs.

We do not sell your details, rent them, or trade them. Nobody else receives them.

How long we keep it

Until you ask us to stop, or until the list is closed. If you unsubscribe we stop emailing you immediately and keep only the record needed to honour that, so you are not added back by accident. Ask for deletion and the whole record goes.

What you can ask for

Whatever your local law entitles you to, you can have here, without having to cite it. Email us and you can ask for a copy of what we hold, a correction, or deletion. We will do it, and we will not make you explain why. Unsubscribing needs no email at all: every message we send has a link, and it works.

Children

This site is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect anything from them. If you believe a child has given us an email address, tell us and we will delete it.

Security, honestly stated

The form is served over HTTPS and the list sits behind an account we control. That said, no site can promise that data sent over the internet is perfectly safe, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The reason we ask for so little is that the little we hold is the only thing that can ever be exposed.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. We will not quietly broaden what we collect and leave this page describing the old version.
